Russian seas - home for about two hundred fifty fish, invertebrates, algae and marine plants’ species. And only 25-30 of them are valuable for commercial fishery.
90% of annual catch at the Far East consists of Pollock, salmon, herring, flatfishes, saffron cod and halibut. The major resource of commercial fishery is Pollock. Mainly poor quality products were produced of this commercial fish before. Today Pollock caviar as semi-finished product is exported to Japan at relatively high price. Under these conditions most of trawlers are oriented to Pollock fishing, and hardly attracted by other fish species.
The invertebrates that are valuable at the East Asian markets such as: crab, shrimp, whelk, bivalve mollusks, squids and octopuses are popular for commercial fishing as well.
The north area of the Far East is the main supplier of such fishery targets as saffron cod, flatfishes, lancet fish, halibut, perch and northern shrimp.
