Leopard conservation project includes complex of conservation, anti-poaching and human dimension activities and the habitat restoration, as well as the restoration of the leopard’s prey species populations.
Besides, the project includes a system of compensations for the local people (for the leopard’s damage to the livestock). A flock of sheep was created under the supervision of a local community. By now, more than 200 sheep have already passed to locals as compensation. The first flock is self-sustainable. It is a replication of experiments started in other parts of the area.
Altogether this allowed to reverse situation with leopard. Its population is stabilized and increasing, from 70-75 in 1999 to 85-90 in 2004.
