WWF-Russia Barents Office is in love with nature

Come visit us in the Arctic! This landscape – harsh, ususual and picturesque – is iconic. Despite their resistance to cold temperatures and penetrating winds, the Arctic’s rivers and lakes, forests and tundra, sea birds and animals need our care and attention.

For this reason, the WWF-Russia Barents Sea office works in the places washed by the Barents Sea: the Murmansk and Arkhangelsk Regions and the Nenets autonomous area. For many people the summer is vacation time, but not for us! During the three summer months, to the brief, mild Arctic summer allows us to organize expeditions to the areas most vulnerable to human activities, and to observe the fascinating world of the tundra.

Our work is challenging due to the remoteness of these areas, but their isolation also protects them from industrialization. Fish is the main luxury of the region, and our goal is to preserve the inhabitants of the sea for future generations. We are striving to make the oil and gas industry a social responsibility. And we aren’t forgetting about youth – we assemble volunteer detachments and supervise WWF Kids clubs.

Our team is still young and there are only seven of us, but this makes our work of caring for our surroundings all the more important. We are very lucky to live here on the harsh but picturesque coast of the Barents Sea. Come join us in the Arctic!
