WWF in the Caucasus

Occupying only 0.5 % of the global land the territory of the Caucasus includes over 40% of landscape types. In terms of fauna and flora, the Caucasus is ranked first among the other regions of the same latitude and yields to tropical countries only.

At the same time, the Caucasus is one of the 25 world's ecoregions where WWF believes urgent conservation measures need to be taken. Illegal felling, poaching, river pollution, and infrastructure development are among the main threats to the unique nature of the Caucasus.

Mission of WWF in the Caucasus consists in conservation of natural ecosystems and habitats of rare and threatened species through establishment of a system of protected areas, anti-poaching measures, combating other types of illegal use of natural resources, and environmental education.
