  Workshop for Arkhangelsk entrepreneurs

A training center organized within the framework of the Pskov Model Forest aims to provide training in innovative methods of sustainable forestry to forest specialists, administrators and entrepreneurs. The training center is equipped with facilities necessary for conducting of seminars/workshops and other training events.

During Phase I of the Pskov Model Forest Project (2000-2003) the total of 74 training workshops were organized for 1500 participants. In 2004-2005 the project organized 41 workshops.

The following subjects are addresses during the workshops:
Major approaches to sustainable forest management;
Techniques of landscape forest management planning;
Conservation of biodiversity in clear cuttings;
Economic effectiveness of the intensive forest use model;
GIS-based planning of forest operations;
Forest resources assessment through remote sensing methods;
Application of new norms in forest operations.

  WORKSHOPS ? ?????? ????????

Through a series of workshops the project provides training in new methods of sustainable forest management to forest specialists and entrepreneurs. Two/three-day-long workshops held in the model forest area are designed for groups of 15-20 people.


  SUBJECTS OF WORKSHOPS HELD IN 2006 ? ?????? ????????

Workshop on application of new forest norms and methods of landscape ecological planning is intended for forest engineers, managers of forest companies and forest specialists

Description. This is an introductory two-day workshop. Day 1 is devoted to practical issues of sustainable forest use. Trainees visit 3-4 demonstration plots in the model forest area, including clear felling with key biotopes retained, natural regeneration under seed trees, thinning operations, and the project’s nature trail. On Day 2 trainees have an indoor training session.

Practical training in nature conservation planning in the course of preparation for independent forest certification is intended for forest engineers, managers of forest companies, forest specialists and specialists from audit companies and certification centers

Description. This is a new two-day workshop providing both, theoretical knowledge in FSC certification requirements to biodiversity conservation and practical skills in nature conservation planning and identification of key biotopes.

Practical training in planning and implementation of commercial thinning is intended for forest managers, forest engineers, and chainsaw operators

Description. This is a new two-day workshop on pre-operational planning, commercial thinning methods and tree selection.

Practical training featuring application of GIS in forest management is intended for forest engineers, managers of forest companies and forest specialists

Description. This is a new two-day workshop on GIS-based operational planning at the level of forest compartments under the cut-to-length (shortwood) method.
